Foam Facts

At Johns' we have hundreds of foam products in stock to handle just about any application. The majority of these foams are made right here in B.C. at A-Z Foam Products in Delta, all these fine products are made without CFC's, and are hypo allergenic. At Johns' we have enjoyed a lengthy relationship with A-Z Foam and their products have proven time and time again to be only of the best quality.

Density
A commonly misused term when referring to foam products is density. Many of us have heard that the higher the density the firmer the foam. This is simply not the case. Density refers to the weight per cubic foot of foam, I.E.; 1lb. 2lb. etc. The higher the weight the longer the foam will keep its firmness. Please refer to the chart for some application examples.

Compression
Within the various densities, the foam can be purchased softer or firmer. This firmness is referred to as compression or IFD (Indentation Force Deflection) or ILD (Indentation Load Deflection). The higher the ILD # the firmer the foam. So it's possible to purchase what is commonly referred to as high density 2-3 lb. foam that is soft (like we use for toppers), or low density 1lb. foam (like we suggest for camping) that is firm. A general rule of thumb for most general applications is the thinner you go the firmer you go. For most upholstery work this will ensure you don't bottom out when you sit down.

Why a foam mattress?
Simply put, foam molds to your body's curves reducing and even eliminating pressure points that can cause you to toss and turn and wake up stiff and sore. Foam will never squeak like a spring mattress and or allow you to roll to the center (unless you want to). Foam is long lasting: our UltraCel™ foam comes with a 20yr. warranty*, or ComfyCel™* comes with a 10 yr. warranty*! Foam is hypo allergenic and can in many cases greatly reduce or eliminate many night time related allergies.

Since our inception in 1989 we have taken these marvelous features to a whole new level. We have developed a system that allows our trained sleep specialists to design a bed that is specifically suited to your height, weight, shape, and nature of problem, what's more is, that we can do this to both sides of the bed! If you and your spouse don't have the same size, weight, shape, or needs why would you expect to both be comfortable on the same firmness of bed? You can both have the bed you need and like and still be under the same covers. We have received literally 1000's of calls and comments from satisfied customers telling us that they've never slept better.
